DropBox has announced a new sharing feature with shortlinks.
With this, DropBox users can share filew easily just with a shortlink of the
file. This feature also allow sharing with non dropbox users too.
“Sharing with friends and family is easy! Once you have
saved that video of your niece’s birthday party to Dropbox, just make a link to
send to grandma and she can simply watch online — no download required! This
saves you the hassle of having to re-upload or attach it to an email,” DropBox
announced.
Now, if you want to share any file in your Dropbox, you just
click on the file, then click on “Get Link”, and Dropbox will automatically
generate a custom URL for that file. You can share that URL via email or social
media websites or however else you like, and whoever clicks on this link will
be able to view the file in their browser. Really simple and fast way to share
files online.
“Anyone with the link gets access to a snazzy page where
they can view (but not edit) your stuff. Our gallery pages give your photos,
videos, and even docs the gorgeous, full-browser view they deserve. This means
that people who follow your link can see pictures, look at presentations, and
watch home videos without having to download and open them separately,” DropBox
added.
If any user wants to save file for later access, he can
simply download file to their system or can save it straight to their Dropbox
account.
But this new feature has some security and privacy issue.
Because anyone has link to the file can access files without need of any type
of authentication. So users need to take care about the links to their private
files.
